State, Nation, and World

“We praise You, Father, that You so loved the world that you gave Your one and only Son, our Lord Jesus Christ…that when the time had fully come, He wrapped Himself in human form, being born as a helpless baby in a poor family. Thank you that He walked here on earth radiating the brightness of Your glory and flawlessly expressing Your nature…and so, through Him, people saw You in action, involved with them, available to meet their needs. Thank you that through the Gospels we can watch this beloved One walk among ordinary people. We can hear the gracious words that came from his lips. We can see His compassion and tenderness toward needy people, His anger at hypocrisy, His faithfulness, his intense love for His followers. Fairest Lord Jesus! You alone are our heart’s desire…our chief delight…our soul’s glory, joy, and crown. Every advantage life can offer is like rubbish, compared with the overwhelming gain of knowing You. You are worthy: Lord-worthy to be thanked and praised and worshiped and adored.”
31 Days of Praise by Ruth Myers.

Please forgive us when we fail to trust in Your almighty power. The power You focus into the lives of common people with deep needs, just like us. Forgive us when ignore the example you set for us, to preach the gospel, take care of the poor, or proclaim Your freedom to prisoners of sin. Help us to glean through the Gospels the example you have given us where we can watch You, beloved Lord, walk among ordinary people. Forgive us when we fail to heed the gracious words that came from Your lips, when we take for granted Your faithfulness and intense love, and become complacent to sin and hypocrisy.

Our Father in Heaven who sent your Son to be one of us but apart from sin, we thank you that He experienced life as we do, becoming tired with its spiritual, physical, social and emotional battles as we do. Yet, through it all He found His strength in You. When we and our leaders grow weary with the issues of our daily lives, help us to look to Him who calls the weary and heavy laden to come to Him. Especially in this New Year, may we draw from Him the strength to do good and God-honoring things with peace and endurance thereby showing the ways of Heaven to people we relate to. In His wonderful name. Amen.

Secretary of State John Kerry warned that the future of a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict was in jeopardy, laying out parameters for future peace talks.
The Obama Administration is close to announcing a series of measures to punish Russia for its interference in the 2016 presidential election, including sanctions and censure.

We pray for President Obama as he winds down his last month as the nation’s leader.

Senator Chuck Schumer (New York) said the Obama Administration’s actions at the UN will “move U.S. further from peace in the Middle East.” Senator John McCain (Arizona) says Russia has the potential to undermine democracy unless U.S. officials respond to their meddling in the U.S. presidential election.

We pray for our leaders in Congress as they will assuredly address foreign issues when they reconvene.

A federal appeals court reversed a lower court decision by saying the State Department’s review of the Clinton emails was insufficient and more needed to be recovered. A North Dakota judge had a message for Dakota Access pipeline protesters seeking to avoid paying their public defenders: “Get a job and pay these costs back.”

We pray for the judges who rule on areas of national conflict and frustration.

Chief Justice John G. Roberts, Supreme Court of the United States

Syria would be divided into informal zones of regional power influence and Bashar al-Assad would remain president for a few more years under a new plan proposed by Russia. A section of a metal bridge at Mosul was taken out by an airstrike cutting off the grip that ISIS has on the city. Only one bridge spanning the Tigris River remains, officials said. Pray for the defeat of ISIS.

We pray about various peace plans being floated for Syria and the region.

Iran has successfully test-fired its long-range surface-to-air missile as its air defense drills enter the final phase using mock hostile aircraft and drones. Three Chinese citizens have been criminally charged in the U.S. with trading in confidential corporate information obtained by hacking into networks of law firms and trading companies.

We pray about U.S. relations with Iran, China and Russia at this time of the presidential transition.

A furious Israeli government said it would not be a “punching bag” for the U.S. or the UN, and that it received “ironclad” information that the U.S. had a hand in the UN resolution. Israel says it will reassess its ties with the United Nations following the Security Council’s resolution regarding “occupied territories” including East Jerusalem and the Wailing Wall.

We pray about a renewed relationship between the U.S. and Israel after the Trump inaugural.

The U.S. economy loses up to $411 billion each year in working days due to sleep deprivation, or the equivalent of 123 million working days, according to a new study. Consumer confidence in the U.S. economy has swelled to its highest level since August 2001, largely following the Trump White House win, according to figures from Bloomberg.

We pray that the renewed confidence in the U.S. economy will continue as the result of real actions.

Progressive filmmaker Michael Moore has called for “all hands on deck” to disrupt the Trump presidency, listing five steps on his Facebook page and expecting a large response. The Trump organization’s top attorney, Jason Greenblatt, will represent the president-elect’s administration in international negotiations, a new release said.

We pray for the president-elect and the many who are being added daily to serve his administration. Come unto me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. – Matthew 11:28

Lord, we lift marriage up to you and ask for your kindness that this institution will always remain between one man and one woman as you ordained by creating Adam and then Eve. We pray for the protection of our children. Marriage is an essential building block for society. It is the ideal to strive for and we pray it remains intact. May those states that have same-sex marriage be moved to reverse their decisions. May the Church and its people step up and step forward to take a stand for the biblical definition of marriage.

Lord, we lift up sexual relations in our nation; may they be respected and not treated as recreation. We pray for those who have been lied to and deceived that contraception is good, while it opens the door for recreational sex. We pray for modesty in our nation and a return to morality and restraint. We are heartsick that the movies, media and television have become pornographic and desensitized to proper boundaries. We are sad they are not accountable, and the Church removed itself from having influence in this arena years ago. Please, Lord, empower Christians with money, ingenuity and courage to return to these areas that broadcast through the airwaves. Please bring truth, redemption and dignity back to America. May we connect sex to marriage and fidelity once again. May men take responsibility for the women they pursue and the children they father. May women be pure, wholesome and demand to be respected. May sexual education be taught by parents; not our schools and media. May we end abortion by choice, defund Planned Parenthood, and choose abstinence until married. The Lord has laid before us life and death; choose life.

God we pray that you would call this nation together and unite your people to stand for truth. We pray that those appointed into office would stand to fight for your justice and that it would prevail over evil. That we would turn away from “Political Correctness” and once again become “Biblically Correct”.

“If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land. Now my eyes will be open and my ears attentive to the prayers offered in this place. I have chosen and consecrated this temple so that my Name may be there forever. My eyes and my heart will always be there” — 2 Chronicles 7:14-16 (NKJV).

“Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus” — 1 Timothy 2:1-5 (NKJV).
